Our Founder

Phil Peterson established a private practice in January 1992 after 21 years of experience in consulting engineering and related fields. Phil’s background includes experience with two consulting engineering firms and one independent testing laboratory. Phil graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1970. At Syracuse University he was elected to Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honorary.

After active duty in the Marine Corps Reserve and work in the restaurant industry, Phil was a founder and vice president of Mid-Lakes Navigation Company, an excursion boat business. Phil joined Calocerinos and Spina Consulting Engineers (now known as C&S Companies), where he became head of the Mechanical Department and received his PE in 1982. At C&S, Phil’s group prepared mechanical and electrical designs for large civil sanitary projects, chemical plants, airports, and defense projects. He was project engineer for support facilities for a major over-the-horizon radar project.

In 1984, Phil became Manager of Engineering and Facilities at ETL Testing Laboratories, a safety and performance testing laboratory in Cortland, NY. At ETL, Phil’s staff maintained and constructed test facilities for ARI testing of air conditioning units, GAMA testing of house appliances and manufacturer testing of commercial, industrial, and home products. In 1988, Phil joined Fraser & Fassler Consulting Engineers as a designer of mechanical systems for university, commercial and industrial facilities and in 1992 Phil established his own practice.

Phil is a past president of the Central New York Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), the Practicing Institute of Engineering (PIE), the International Codes Council (ICC) and the International District Energy Association, and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He is a member of the Onondaga County Plumbing Board of Examiners and is the designated plan reviewer for elevators and vertical conveyances for the City of Syracuse.
